Here is a list of the most frequently asked questions at Hostel Utopia. Please look at this page first before you contact us through phone or mail. Most of the time the answer of your questions could be found here. If you can’t find your answer feel free to contact us! 👍🏻
1. CAN I CANCEL MY BOOKING?
Yes, however our cancellation policy requires 72-hours advanced notification prior to the date of arrival. Cancellations must be done by e-mail, telephone or via the modify booking link in the confirmation email sent by hostelworld. – Please be aware that the reception is also a coffeeshop and is often busy, if we are unable to take your call please try again after a few minuites
It is important to note that the 12% deposit payed at the time of booking is a fee charged by the website and is nothing to do with us, we are unable to refund this under any circumstances.
2. HOW DO I CHANGE MY BOOKING?
During opening hours (Everyday 9am-1am) you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call +31 (0)20 626 1295. Please provide us with your booking details (Name, reference number and date of arrival) for a quick handling of your booking changes. When you receive a personal reply with the confirmation of your change, you can be sure that it has been processed. – Please be aware that the reception is also a coffeeshop and is often busy, if we are unable to take your call please try again after a few minutes.
3. IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO BE IN THE SAME ROOM AS MY FRIENDS?
We always try our best to make sure that this is so, however in some circumstances this is not possible, you can increase the chances by making a large booking instead of multiple small ones, also the further in advance the booking is made, the more likely that the beds requested will be in the same room, in the worst case scenario it is always fine for people to chill in the other room with their friends.
Just make your online booking and send us an email with the booking number(s) of you and your friends and explain what you prefer. Then we will do our best to put you in the same room and will always reply to you in person. Please read the note on the different room types before you book and contact us if you are not sure what to book!
4. IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT? 🔞
Yes, the hostel (and ofcourse the coffeeshop) is only allowed for people above the age of 18. Bookings made for anyone under age will be cancelled upon arrival.
5. ARE THERE ANY OTHER ADDITIONAL COSTS?
There will be charged 5,5% of the booking price as tourist tax. So this is not included in the booking price, keep this in mind! 😉
6. IS THERE FREE WI-FI?
Ofcourse there is! We provide each floor with WiFi so you could Netflix & Chill, post updates of your trip to social media or check-in for your return flights in the rooms if you want. Our staff are also happy to help with printing boarding passes/event tickets etc.
7. HOW OFTEN ARE BEDDING AND TOWELS CHANGED?
With the majority of our bookings being three days or less, we usually change these items when guests have checked out. However, if you are staying with us for a longer period of time feel free to let our staff know what you need (before 10:30am on the day required) and they will arrange things for you).
8. DOES UTOPIA HAVE COOKING FACILITIES?
Unfortunately we do not have a kitchen for guests, we do have a microwave in the coffeeshop/reception in which guests can ask staff to heat up food for them, the nearby supermarket has many microwave meal options (some of which are actually quite good). However, there is no fridge where guests food can be stored (some medications can be stored here as they are small), there are also hundreds of restaurants within five minutes of walking.
9. HOW DOES THE PRICING WORK?
When you make your booking the total price is calculated, this includes regular taxes, 12% of that total is then paid as a fee to the website used to make the booking, upon arrival there is an extra 5% added to the bill to cover Amsterdam’s city tax system. Many hostels in Amsterdam charge 5 euro per day for these taxes, we charge the regulated 5%. There is also a refundable deposit of 20 euros required for the key to the room, this is returned on check out assuming that you do not lose the key, cutting new keys costs us 20 euro per key as they are security keys that cannot be cut without a specific document.
